Become a volunteer

Information on how to become a volunteer working in professional development or professional registration.

If you would like to get involved by becoming a volunteer, please take the time to read the following role descriptions and requirements. Once you have identified a role that interests you and that you are eligible for, contact the volunteer support unit. Please include the name of the role/s you are most interested in and attach a CV that includes details of any previous volunteering experience.

 

Accreditation roles

 

Academic accreditor

Visits higher education institutions to investigate degree programmes and decide if they meet ECUK's UKSPEC learning outcomes.

 

Professional development assessor

Works to ascertain if an employer’s initial professional development (IPD) scheme provides the pathway for registration.

 

Professional registration roles

 

Assessor

Serves on panels to evaluate applications for professional registration.

 

Fellowship assessor

Serves on panels to evaluate Fellowship applications.


 

Professional review interviewer

Interviews candidates applying for professional registration.

 

Professional registration advisor

Advise candidates in their Local Network on the requirements and routes to professional registration.

 

Industry representative

Promotes the IET and professional registration within companies.


International professional registration advisor

Advise candidates in their countries on the requirements and routes to professional registration.

 

Professional development roles 

 

Career Manager advisor

Visits organisations and local networks to demonstrate the Career Manager online professional development system.


Mentoring co-ordinator

Mentoring co-ordinators are the main point of contact for mentoring in their Local Network.


In company mentor

Guides candidates within own company towards becoming a competent, professional engineer.

 

Professional development mentor

Guides and encourages a candidate's professional development, including the acquisition of competences for professional registration, where appropriate.
