Electrical Basics course
This two day course is intended to provide an understanding of terminology, units of measurement and basic electrical theory.
The course is intended primarily as a foundation to enable participants to lay the foundations for subsequent technical courses, in particular the Portable Appliance Testing, Testing of Electrical Installations and Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations courses. A ten per cent discount will be given on any of the above mentioned courses when booked in conjunction with this Electrical Basics course.
Course topics:
- basic parameters and units of measurement;
- types of electric current;
- electrical power and energy;
- the basic electric circuit;
- insulation and continuity resistance;
- electrical protection and calculation of protective device ratings;
- the principles of earthing;
- switching and isolation of electrical equipment;
- plug connections and polarity;
- the use of extension leads;
- examples of electrical equipment hazards.
Some practical work is included.
