Guidance updates

Guidance notes are provided to support you with using Career Manager. They can be accessed by clicking on the blue icon wherever you see it on the Career Manager pages.

Updates have been made across the CEng and IEng applications, as well as for CPD Declarations. Be sure that you have followed the guidance before you submit your information to the IET.

Recent usability changes

The Review Application page has a new layout to walk you through the steps that you should take before sending your application to your supporter. You’re encouraged to preview your application and download a copy of your application to ensure that it is complete and correct before you send it to your supporter for final verification.

When you ‘Add Supporter’ in the Verification section of the Professional Registration application, we have made some changes to enhance the usability. You can now send your supporter the verification link when you add their details, rather than having to save the supporter and then send the link separately.

The CPD Plan Reports and Mentor feedback has also been improved, so you can save a report, add reviewers, and send the review link all from one form, rather than having to follow multiple steps.

Similarly the Self-Assessment - Get Feedback form has been updated to allow you to save a copy of your assessment, add a mentor and send the link in a much simpler way.

IET Accredited Schemes

The Enrol onto your Scheme page has been updated to allow scheme candidates (a.k.a. developing engineers) to edit and delete their mentor’s name after they have enrolled.

Use Career Manager on a mobile device

Career Manager is responsive on mobile devices, such as smart phones and tablets. This means that all the features of Career Manager are available to you whether you are at your desk or on the move, so you can record your CPD on the go.

Create a Career Manager shortcut on your mobile

You can pin Career Manager to your mobile phone or tablet’s home screen so you can use it like one of your apps.

Just follow these simple steps:

  • Start Career Manager on your device’s browser https://career-manager.theiet.org/
  • Depending on the type of device do one of the following:
    • If you use Safari on an iPhone, tap the ‘More Options’ icon in the toolbar at the bottom of the screen
    • If you use Chrome on an Android phone, tap the 'More Options' menu to the top right of your screen
  • Scroll to 'Add to Home Screen' and tap. When prompted, you can then choose to rename your icon.

CPD Quick Codes and QR codes

CPD Quick Codes have been introduced to aid members to quickly add CPD activities, for example after attending IET courses and events. When using a Quick Code to add your CPD, the key details of the activity will be filled in for you. All you have to do is check the information provided, decide whether to pin the activity to one of your development goals and add your reflection.

QR codes can be used to scan the Quick Code into Career Manager when using a mobile device. Just use the camera on your device and you’ll be navigated straight to Career Manager.

Over 70 Quick Codes were rolled out at IET Professional Development courses, local network events and even in E+T magazine during 2023. We will continue to roll out more Quick Codes throughout this year.

If you don’t have a Quick Code for the CPD activity that you’re adding, then this field can be left blank and just add your CPD details manually.

Check the status of your registration or Fellowship application

The Home dashboard provides information on the progress of your registration or Fellowship application. The Continue Application button allows you to quickly navigate to your application to make updates.
