IET educational films nominated for BAFTA award

30 October 2008

BAFTA has recognised the excellence of the Institution of Engineering and Technology’s (IET’s) Faraday programme by nominating it for a prestigious award.

The films, produced by Radley Yeldar for the 2008 Faraday programme, have been nominated in the British Academy Children's Awards Learning – Secondary category. The awards represent the best in children's productions - in film, television and online.

The Faraday programme is a year long resource available for schools to promote the world of engineering to young people in an attempt to inspire them to study the relevant examination subjects. The theme of the films was “Technology for life”.

Jan Stapleton, IET head of education 5-19, said, “It’s a huge honour just to be nominated for a BAFTA as they are so prestigious and sought after. It’s great recognition for the IET’s Faraday programme which aims to inspire a curiosity in science and an enthusiasm to find out more. The films provided a powerful and dynamic way to communicate a complex subject and to dispel the myths around engineering.”

The Faraday 08/09 programme with the theme of ‘Engineering in Sport’ has now kicked off and is accessible to all secondary schools in the country through a dedicated website. There is also a series of Faraday Engineering Challenge Days hosted at schools across the UK. For more information, visit www.theiet.org/faraday.
